Our bodies naturally produce stem cells that help us heal by stimulating the growth of collagen, as well as blood vessels that deliver oxygen to bodily tissues. Platelets and growth factors found in the blood stimulate stem cells, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains three to five times as many of these substances as normal blood. PRP has been used for years to heal wounds and for other purposes. Today, PRP therapies are also available for facial rejuvenation and other areas of aesthetic medicine.

WHAT ARE PRP INJECTIONS?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) skin rejuvenation is a relatively new health treatment that appeals to individuals looking for a more natural alternative to facial rejuvenation. Prior to treatment, a simple blood sample of the patient’s blood (about 20cc) is placed in a centrifuge for 5 – 8 minutes so that the blood separates from the growth factors, platelets and stem cells.

HOW DOES PRP TREATMENT WORK?

Once the plasma has been through the centrifugation process, the rejuvenative mixture is then microinjected in areas of the face where signs of aging have appeared, such as the areas surrounding the eyes, cheeks, mouth and forehead. The increased concentration of platelets causes an increase in collagen production, which in turn increases skin thickness and the overall health of the skin.

HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Depending on the area being treated, you should notice the results anywhere from 1 – 2 weeks. Typically however, full results are seen around 6 weeks. You will notice the disappearance of fine lines and facial wrinkles within days of your first treatment and more importantly, they will be gone for a long time. Depending on well the skin is cared for, results can last up to 18 months.
